Hainsworths Boatyard was founded by Leslie Hainsworth around 1939 when he rented some land next to the canal. This was so that he and some friends could haul out and repair their own boats. This naturally turned into a business and he started building wooden canal cruisers. Les was a founding member of The Inland Waterways Association that saved the canal networks from being filled in. When he passed away in 1978 Peter & Kath Higgins inherited the boat yard and continued providing moorings, boat maintance, repairs and building steel narrowboats. They also started to get asked about boat transport by road, which over the past 30 years has taken every kind of boat to every corner in Europe.
